Aug. 1 (UPI)– President Donald Trump has threatened to prohibit TikTok from running in the United States in the middle of tensions with the Chinese government.
Trump stated he might prohibit the video-sharing social networking app, owned by the Chinese firm ByteDance, from operating in the United States through an executive orde r as early as Saturday
Vanessa Pappas, U.S. general supervisor of TikTok, in a video message Saturday thanked the millions of people who use the app daily, and said “we’re not planning on going anywhere.”.
The Trump administration utilized an executive order last year to force Chinese owners of the LGBTQ dating app Grindr to quit control of the business.
U.S. security officials have raised issues that the app could be utilized to collect individual data on U.S. citizens, though TikTok has denied that it shares any information with the Chinese federal government.
” We have received much more scrutiny due to the business’s Chinese origins,” he also composed in the letter.
” With our success comes responsibility and responsibility,” he continued. “We are accountable and dedicated members of the American community that follows U.S. laws.”.
