Trump threatens to ban TikTok from operating in U.S.

Aug. 1 (UPI)– President Donald Trump has threatened to prohibit TikTok from running in the United States in the middle of tensions with the Chinese government.

” As far as TikTok is worried, we’re prohibiting them from the United States,” Trump informed press reporters aboard Air Force One late Friday.

Trump stated he might prohibit the video-sharing social networking app, owned by the Chinese firm ByteDance, from operating in the United States through an executive orde r as early as Saturday

Vanessa Pappas, U.S. general supervisor of TikTok, in a video message Saturday thanked the millions of people who use the app daily, and said “we’re not planning on going anywhere.”.

The Trump administration utilized an executive order last year to force Chinese owners of the LGBTQ dating app Grindr to quit control of the business.

U.S. security officials have raised issues that the app could be utilized to collect individual data on U.S. citizens, though TikTok has denied that it shares any information with the Chinese federal government.

Ahead of a huge tech antitrust hearing previously this week, TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer released a letter stating that “fair competition makes all of us better,” and that TikTok is “not the enemy.”.

” We have received much more scrutiny due to the business’s Chinese origins,” he also composed in the letter.

” With our success comes responsibility and responsibility,” he continued. “We are accountable and dedicated members of the American community that follows U.S. laws.”.
